Scrooge (1913)
It’s old, it’s silent, it’s mostly like a stage play. It does some transparent double exposure stuff for ghosts
Scrooge (1951)
A little hammy even by 50s standards, but a very good scrooge and some emotional moments that are strong
Scrooge (1970)
A musical, same composer of Oliver!. Decent sets and costumes, pretty hammy
A Christmas Carol (1999)
Made for TV so the quality of presentation is a bit rough, though uses some effects work, but Patrick Stewart is great and it’s fairly faithful
Scrooged (1988)
The original modern interpretation, Bill Murray makes an interesting Scrooge in his indifferent, callous personality. It’s funny and gives a spin, but doesn’t really land the same weight that traditional versions do
Sprited (2022)
A musical, really? Very crammed full of stuff, all over the place. It tries to lampshade it’s stupidity, but then does it anyway…
A Christmas Carol (1984)
Made for TV, George C. Scott is believable and not over the top, really faithful
A Christmas Carol (1938)
Removes some of the teeth of the original story, Scrooge never had a fiancee
A Muppet Christmas Carol
I am partial to Muppets in general, but I do think this is the best ‘for kids’ version giving the key parts of the story with some humor. The music is meh
The Man Who Invented Christmas
Actually about the writing of the story, honestly pretty good digging into some of the complication of getting the story printed and released
The Stingiest Man in Town
This was among the worst thing I watched during Rankin-Bass marathon
A Christmas Carol (2009)
Zemekis has improved his horrifying motion capture, and the action and Carey’s performance give some thrills, albeit distracting from the story. It is faithful, but it spends too much time in over the top visuals that distract
Mickey's Christmas Carol
It’s fine, and it’s easy to just jam Scrooge McDuck in here. It’s really straight forward
A Christmas Carol (1997)
Saturday morning cartoon level, DIC made it of course, Tim Curry is fun, but the animation quality is eh and the songs are not good and not needed. He has a dog for some stupid reason
A Flintstones Christmas Carol
Framing device is that they are putting on a play of A Christmas Carol. Weirdly a lot of this revolves around people, and dinosaurs, getting a virus.
Of course I spent time focusing on things that don’t make sense about the Flintstones
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol
Just jam the titles together. This has the same songs as the 1970 version, and the dog of the 1997 version. I have no idea what this is supposed to bring to the table, it really is just more of the same
